Church of England Parish Registers

The Story is home to over 7,000 Church of England parish registers covering the diocese of Durham. Step back into the lives of millions of County Durham inhabitants  from the 1538 onwards. Parish registers record the baptism, burial, banns and marriage ceremonies of people from every walk of life. They are key to researching family history, the story of our communities and population studies, especially before the introduction of civil birth, marriage and death registration in July 1837.
