The Story team has been working closely with AM Digital and Microform to offer an exciting new way to view some of our archives. High quality digitisation and viewing solutions are transforming access to our most popular record collections.
Jump onto a digital access point in the The Story’s Search and Discover space to zoom in on fragile pages that were previously microfilmed. We’re improving access to original documents that need careful preservation for future generations.
Our digitisation programme initially covers six record categories:
- Church of England parish registers
- Nonconformist church registers
- Cemetery and crematorium registers
- Electoral registers
- Newspapers
- Durham Light Infantry records
With the help of a digital apprentice, we’ve also extracted around 0.75 million names from paper-based church register indexes and added them to a searchable database on your screen at Search and Discover.
